Iron: zinc selenide laser, pumping with pulse width that is shorter than or comparable to the population-inversion lifetime

We investigate the requirements for the pulse width and intensity of the pump beam, for the Fe:ZnSe lasing medium to reach threshold. The rate equation is solved for the time dependence of the population density, N-2 of the T-5(2) manifold which includes the upper level for the lasing transition.
