摘要

•Cognitive deficits are observed in non-lesional TLE already at the time of diagnosis.•Delayed visual memory and mental task-switching functions are most impaired.•The cognitive impairment may be linked to the underlying pathology rather than to epilepsy-related factors.•TLE seems to comprise larger brain networks beyond the temporal lobes.•There is a need for greater awareness of cognition from early disease course.
