Influence of Functionalized eta(6)-Arene Rings on Ruthenium(II) Curcuminoids Complexes

A series of organometallic Ru(II) complexes containing functionalized eta(6)-arene ligands, together with curcumin and bisdemethoxycurcumin as O,O'-chelating ligands and their RAPTA (ruthenium arene complexes bearing the 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane ligand) type ionic derivatives is reported. The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, infrared, H-1 and (CNMR)-C-13, ESI-MS spectrometry, and by single-crystal X-ray structure analysis. The cytotoxic activity of the complexes has been evaluated against human ovarian A2780 and A2780cisR cancer cell lines as well as non-tumorigenic human embryonic kidney HEK 293 cells.
