Base-Promoted Substitution Reaction: A Simple, Economical, and Efficient Method for Obtaining 3-Sulfenylated Benzo[b]furan Derivatives

A practical and concise protocol for the efficient preparation of 3-sulfenylated benzo[b]furan derivatives via an addition-elimination/vinylic-nucleophilic substitution reaction is been described. Various substituted 3-sulfenylated benzo[b]furan derivatives were synthesized in good-to-excellent yields under basic conditions. Remarkably, this procedure offers several advantages including good yields, mild reaction conditions, simple operation, no requirement of extra metals, and gram-scale synthesis.
