Synthesis and properties of beta-cyclodextrin bearing a spiro [2H-benzopyran-2,2 '-indoline] moiety

The title compound, named SBI-beta -CD briefly, was synthesized for the first time and measured with UV and circular dichroism (CD) for its photochromism and complexation with (-)-borneol. The results indicated that SBI-beta -CD was photoregulatable to the guest-binding and could be used to act as a photoswitchable host compound.
