Analysis of dynamic balance in preschool children through the balance beam test: A cross-sectional study providing reference values

•There are positive effects of age on the balance beam test performance.•No significant sex differences in balance beam test performance were found.•The balance beam test is a reliable and valid dynamic balance test for preschoolers.•Reference values could be used for monitoring dynamic balance development.
