Quantifying balance deficit in people with ankle fracture six months after surgical intervention through the Y-Balance test

•The YBT test reliably detects dynamic balance deficits in people with ankle surgery.•Non-operated leg scores can be used as reference values for balance restoration.•Bilateral YBT differences >3.3 % can be considered as clinically relevant.•Balance restoration should also focus on improving hip weakness.
