摘要

•Alveolar echinococcosis has caused severe morbidity and mortality in endemic areas.•Prevention of the disease is challenging on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in China.•A control program of deworming owned dogs was implemented in Tibetan communities.•Human prevalence was reduced but there was no impact on the prevalence in intermediate hosts.
