Role of rTMS in the treatment of cognitive impairments in Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia: a review of Randomized Controlled Trials.

•rTMS is considered a cognitive enhancer in both healthy and psychiatric subjects.•The review summarizes RCTs exploring the impact of rTMS on cognition in BD and SCZ.•In BD, rTMS seems more effective in specific phases of the disease (e.g. euthymia).•Specific subgroups of psychotic disorders may respond differently to rTMS.•Results are still heterogeneous and more homogeneous protocols are needed.
