Seasonal variation in the survival of discarded Nephrops norvegicus in a NW Mediterranean bottom-trawl fishery

•The post-catch survival of Nephrops was monitored experimentally, as per ICES WKMEDS recommendations.•Significant seasonal differences in Nephrops potential discard survival.•The highest mortality rates of Nephrops were measured in summer.•We establish a systematic definition of vitality status for Nephrops.
