摘要
Auxetic structures are inherently advantageous in achieving tailored auxeticity and associated mechanical properties since their deformation modes are dictated by the architectures of the building block unit cells. Apparently, the analyses of geometrical parameters become critical for enhanced overall mechanical attributes. In the current research work a novel chiral type S-shaped structure was evaluated considering variations in the most critical geometrical parameter, length to the radius ratio. The changes in the length to radius ratios led to the change in the shape of the otherwise circular S-cells to the elliptical Sshaped structures. The results from the finite element simulations of compressive loading on these new structural forms indicated improvements in the stress distribution patterns, together with reduced stress concentration effects. However, the oblong structural variation proved to have relatively no significant effect on the auxeticity of the overall structure. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
