Design and Test of the Insulator Detection Robot in 500kV

Insulators are the easily damaged devices in transmission lines, whose insulation performance needs to be checked regularly. It is of great significance to use robots to replace workers in dangerous live detection. In this paper, a robot for insulator live detection is developed, which can apply voltage to measure the resistance of tension-proof porcelain insulator string and transmit the image, so as to judge its insulation performance. Besides, it can be remotely controlled and walk autonomously to complete the detection of all insulators. The performance of the machine was verified by a 500kV AC test in a high voltage hall. The results show that the robot can correctly identify the broken insulator. A strong electric field occurs at the probe.
