Simulation of CO2 Rayleigh Convection in Aqueous Solutions of NaCl, KCl, MgCl2 and CaCl2 Using Lattice Boltzmann Method

•The LBM model with electrostatic and volume forces was firstly used to simulate CO2 Rayleigh convection in NaCl, KCl, MgCl2, and CaCl2 solutions.•The pattern of CO2 concentration distributions in four salt solutions were obtained.•The bigger density difference was found to accelerate Rayleigh convection.•The mass transfer rate of Rayleigh convection in salt solutions was 10-6 m∙s-1 and the mean dissolution rate was around 2 times larger than that at the onset of convection.
