Staff engagement within the NHS is a journey not a single event

Staff engagement is the emotional commitment an employee as to the organization and its goals. Within the National Health Service (NHS), higher levels of engagement are associated with better staff performance and improved patient outcomes. However, it is often uncertain how management teams should improve staff engagement and what strategies to explore to increase this metric. Here, I provide a local commentary of staff engagement within the NHS, discussing key human resource and working environment barriers and enablers.
