•Physiologically based extraction technique undertaken at different gastric pH values.•Al, As, B, Ba, Cd, Co, Cu, Fe, Mn, and Pb determination in the extracts using ICP-MS.•Statistical evaluation using Principal Component Analyses and Correlation Analyses.•Higher extraction rates at lower pH values for As, Ba, Cd, Co, Cu, Fe, Mn, and Pb and at higher pH values for Al and B.•Potential consequences for gastric cancer and gastric ulcer patients.
