Anti-corrosion engineering of Cu2S/FeOOH hybrid nanosheets as superior bifunctional electrocatalysts for overall water splitting

Herein, the overall water splitting catalytic activity of Cu2S is significantly improved by the hybridization of FeOOH The as-prepared catalysts achieve overpotential of 136 mV for HER and 208 mV for OER at a current density of 10 mA cm−2, which is superior to those of pristine Cu2S. The high corrosion resistance of FeOOH could also enhance the long term stability of Cu2S. The overall water splitting devised based on bifunctional Cu@Cu2S@FeOOH nanosheets electrocatalyst could achieve an onset potential of 1.489 V and excellent stability up to 36 h without degradation. The present study did not only has gone some way towards enhancing our understanding of increasing the long term stability electrocatalyst, but also improve the application prospect of Cu2S.
