G-DRG-Version 2006 - Its impact on our speciality

On 13.09.2005, the leading associations of the self-administration announced, that they had reached agreement on the 2006 version of the G-DRG catalogue as well as the German coding guidelines. The total number of G-DRGs is now 956. Anaesthesia continues to be considered as an integral part of the operative procedure. Changes were made in the area of pain therapy and intensive care medicine. In the year 2006, the intensive care treatment complex will be included in the grouper for DRG allocation, alternatively or in combination with mechanical ventilation time. In order, within the 2006 DRG system, to be able to continue to adequately represent the services provided by our specialty, the changes in this year's system must be taken into account in the routine documentation process.
