Impact of Non–guideline-directed Care on Quality of Life in Testicular Cancer Survivors

Testicular cancer should be treated according to established guidelines by the National Comprehensive Cancer Network or the American Urological Association/European Association of Urology. In this study, we show how nonadherence to guidelines leads to inferior quality of life, worse physical functioning, and more financial stress in testicular cancer survivors. Such manifestations are in addition to treatment delay, avoidable morbidity, and higher rates of disease relapse that we have shown in our previous publication (Wymer KM, Pearce SM, Harris KT, Pierorazio PM, Daneshmand S, Eggener SE. Adherence to National Comprehensive Cancer Network® guidelines for testicular cancer. J Urol 2017;197:684–9). These data reinforce the effort to increase awareness and implementation of recognized testicular cancer guidelines among providers.
