In the era of Big Data, genome-wide association studies (GWASs) have been the main instrument to better our understanding of the genetics behind human traits. The schizophrenia GWAS by the psychiatric genomics consortium (PGC) identified many loci plausibly involved in the etiology of the disorder [Ripke et al., 2014]. However, the picture appears to be far from complete [Lichtenstein, 2009; Polderman, 2015; Gejman, 2010; Lee, 2012].
