An efficient and general approach for the joint order batching and picker routing problem

•We propose a solving method for the joint order batching and picker routing problem.•The paper presents a column generation based heuristic with performance guarantee.•The solving method applies to general rectangular warehouse’s layouts.•The methodology is applied on two industrial benchmarks: Foodmart and HappyChic.•Results improve best known lower and upper bounds within short time limits.
