Estimating costs of diabetes complications in people <65 years in the U.S. using panel data

•This study provides the most recent and robust cost estimates for many diabetes complications.•Our cost estimate distinguishes Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and the year of complication event.•We constructed longitudinal panel data with unprecedented large sample size and long follow-up.•We used the fixed-effects panel regressions to account for unobservable confounding over time.
