Enzymatic and non-enzymatic detoxification in Lycosa terrestris and Pardosa birmanica exposed to single and binary mixture of copper and lead

•The bioaccumulation of Cu and Pb was time-dependent in Lycosa terrestris and Pardosa birmanica.•Single and combined exposure of Cu and Pb induced diverse alterations in the defense system of spiders.•Induction or inhibition of defense responses depends on metal type and its concentration.•MTs, CarbE, and GST are general biomarkers for ecotoxicological biomonitoring.•GSH, CYP 450, and AchE are specific biomarkers of Cu and Pb toxicity in the spider species.
