Use Of Polarized Dermoscopy In The Evaluation Of Congenital Erythropoietic Porphyria

Porphyrias constitute a heterogenous group of disorders resulting from specific enzyme defect in heme synthesis.1 Diagnostic screening with Woods lamp for demonstration of porphyrin-induced fluorescence in tissues/fluids especially teeth, nails and urine in darkroom setting is preferred before ordering logistically difficult and expensive confirmatory tests.However, Woods lamp may not be available in every practice.Evaluation with polarized dermoscopy can provide a logistically simpler alternative to Woods lamp examination in darkroom.
