摘要
SUMMARY (External radiotherapy and risk of mesothelioma: data analysis of Surveillance Epidemiology, and End Results Program, 1973-2012)-Limited evidence support an association between ionizing radiation exposure and mesothelioma risk. To investigate the impact of radiation-induced mesothelioma among patients treated with external beam radiotherapy (EBRT), we conducted an analysis of data from the US cancer registers. We documented an increased incidence of mesothelioma among EBRT patients compared to non-irradiated (hazard ratio 1.34, 95% confidence interval 1.04-1.74). The cumulative incidence of mesothelioma after 40 years of observation was very low (non-irradiated patients: 32 per 100,000; irradiated patients: 55 per 100,000). Then, the clinical impact of radiation-induced mesothelioma is limited.
