摘要

•38 abdominal aortas harvested during autopsy were inflated up to their rupture.•All 8 aneurysmal aortas evolved to rupture under inflation pressures above 590 mm Hg.•All 30 normal aortas evolved to rupture under inflation pressures above 840 mm Hg.•25% of abdominal aortic aneurysm specimens did not rupture in their most dilated region.•Normal aortas were more elastic than the abdominal aortic aneurysms.
