Although research has uncovered novel design opportunities to meet the needs of patients in the hospital, studying how technologies can support these needs can be a challenge in such a complex clinical setting. In this paper, we describe our experience deploying and conducting a patient-facing technology probe study in two hospitals, and present five key lessons learned as a result of our experience. These lessons offer practical considerations for future studies in the hospital context.
