•Hemodynamic-independent measurement of DfMRI is key to detect brain dysfunction.•We detected hyperactivation of the CST circuit in a neuropsychiatric mouse model.•Hemodynamic-independent functional connectivity was analyzed in the CST circuitry.•We discovered unbalanced distributions of neural propagation to the global network.
