Preparation of a new magnetic ion-imprinted polymer and optimization using Box-Behnken design for selective removal and determination of Cu(II) in food and wastewater samples

•Allyl chloride was used for the first time as monomer for IIP synthesis.•RSM was applied for optimization and understanding the sorption mechanism.•This material serves twin objective of both determination and selective removal of Cu(II) in real samples.
