•Novel porous Ag2O/Bi5O7I p-n heterojunction with UV–Vis-NIR response ability was prepared.•Porous structure enhances the separation efficiency of charge carries.•Ag2O/Bi5O7I heterojunction show excellent light corrosion resistance.•A full spectrum BPA degradation mechanism was proposed.
