New architecture of a variable anode for full-time efficient electrochemical oxidation of organic wastewater with variable Cl− concentration

•An anode architecture with in situ adjustable surface was built by magnetic force.•Wastewater with variable Cl− content could be effectively handled by this anode.•Strategies of adjusting anode under different conditions were concluded.•Relationships among anode composition/structure and properties were revealed.
