An ophiobolin F synthase homolog was discovered fromAspergillus calidoustusCBS121601. The cyclisation mechanism of this terpene synthase was investigated by extensive isotopic labelling experiments and the absolute configuration of its product ophiobolin F was elucidated by enantioselective deuteration.
