A pilot investigation on cantonese word recog- nition for elderly people in subway carriages

The subjective hearing evaluation of the interior environment of Guangzhou subway carriage was evaluated by 8 elderly participants in this paper. The word recognition scores and subjective listening difficulty of Cantonese under different signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) were obtained. The results show that when the SNR is greater than 10dBA, and the pure tone threshold average (PTA) is less than 32dB HL, the Cantonese word recognition score of older participants can reach 100%. With the decrease of the SNR, the word recognition score declined gradually, increasing the listening difficulty. The lower the PTA of the elderly is, the higher the word recognition scores and the lower hearing difficulty assessment are under the same SNR condition.
