In this paper, the deformation characteristics of AISI316 and AISI304 stainless steel are investigated in a temperature range of 850-1050 °C and strain rate range of 0.001-0.1 s using dilatometer hot compression tests. The tests aimed at producing hot processing map and TEM images of the alloys. Based on the deformation results, an empirical model is used to predict the behaviour of both alloys in terms of the stress/strain characteristics and the recrystallization dynamics. The developed model is considered to be a very good tool which can be used to predict the materials characteristics under predefined deformation conditions.
