Using derivatization of BMAA with the optically pure FLEC-reagent prior to LC-MS/MS analysis facilitated the chiral analysis of BMAA on a reverse phase column. Enzymatic hydrolysis was also shown to be preferable over acid hydrolysis in order to avoid racemization artefacts. The application of this method indicated for the fi rst time what appears to be the natural occurrence of D-BMAA in a Cycad seed. As featured in:
