A Prospective Assessment of Benefit Using Energy Efficiency Measures on Building Appliances : Case Study of University Campus

University campus is one of the energy intensive sectors with continuously increasing the energy demand. This paper investigates the current energy consumption patterns and corresponding carbon emission by the appliances of two sample buildings in university campus located in Southeast Asian developing country Bangladesh. The energy efficiency measures are applied to the appliances and proposed energy saving strategies are studied to improve the energy efficiency. The analysis shows that 32% electricity consumption as well as carbon reduction could be possible applying the proposed strategies. The paper essentially discusses how a university authority or a community leader can put efforts to achieve low energy and low carbon campus or community, and gain environmental and economic benefit using efficient appliances with minimum investment. This study will be useful for developed and developing countries to build low energy and low carbon cities and communities.
