both, CaVb1aand CaVb2b-subunits, fraction of low-P(O) mode periods increased when more CaVb1a-subunits in relation to CaVb2b-subunits were expressed. As expected, when recordings were split into low-P(O) (CaVb1a-like) and high-P(O) (CaVb2b-like) periods, the extent of inactivation was higher for the low-P(O) (CaVb1a-like) mode. Our results illustrate a functionally effective competition between CaVbsubunits, suggesting that in cells that express different CaVb isoforms, activity of a given channel can be dynamically regulated.
