摘要
The site-separation principle or "ensemble effect" is a frequently discussed point in heterogeneous catalysis research. As the size of metallic clusters on surfaces is reduced, so are the number of possible molecular bonding configurations and reaction pathways. Accordingly, the catalyst shows a higher selectivity towards a certain desired product. We studied this effect on single crystalline PdGa surfaces, a recently presented model catalyst system. A combined experimental-computational approach is presented, revealing adsorption characteristics which can be assigned to the different extends of active-site separation on various single crystal facets.
