Utilization of sugarcane straw for production of β-glucan biopolymer by Lasiodiplodia theobromae CCT 3966 in batch fermentation process.

•Sugarcane straw was successfully utilized for production of β-glucan biopolymer.•Sugarcane straw was pretreated by consecutive dilute H2SO4 (1%w/v) and NaOH (1%w/v).•Enzymatic hydrolysis of pretreated sugarcane straw was conducted by cellulase enzyme.•β-Glucan was produced by culture of L. theobromae CCT3966 in biomass hydrolysate.•Experimental β-glucan production from hydrolysate was consistent with kinetic model.
