•Frontline medical workers had higher rates of anxiety, depressed mood and insomnia than non-frontline medical workers.•No significant difference in help-seeking and treatment behaviors between frontline and non-frontline medical workers.•The timely mental support and intervention should be provided for medical workers, especially for those on the frontline.
