摘要
•Arterial measurements are prone to large variability as seen in repeated samples.•In respiratory steady state, transcutaneous PtCO2 is a reasonable estimate of PaCO2.•In non-steady state, the variability in PaCO2 are not reflected in transcutaneous PtCO2.•PtCO2 may have a limited usefulness as a method for monitoring acute conditions.
