•GQDs with different color or ion-responsive fluorescent are synthesized.•Printable fluorescent ink based on GQDs is easily prepared.•Anti-counterfeiting by color, pattern, spectrum of GQD’s fluorescence is realized.•Stimuli-responsive information encryption is achieved.
