•Automated detection of five heart sounds: normal, aortic stenosis, mitral valve prolapse, mitral stenosis, mitral regurgitation.•Novel deep WaveNet model is proposed.•Obtained average training classification accuracy of 97%.•System can aid cardiologists in the accurate detection of heart valve diseases in patients.
