How cancer registries can detect neoplasms in pathology laboratories that code with SNOMED CT terminology? An actual, simple and flexible solution.

•Neoplastic & topographic concepts from SNOMED CT were mapped to ICD-O-3.1/Blue-Books.•16,448 neoplastic concepts of the SNOMED CT drop to 2115 ICD-O-3.1 codes.•32,278 topographic concepts of the SNOMED CT drop to 330 ICD-O-3.1 codes.•SNOMED CT mapping identifies tumors according to international criteria.•Neoplastic subset mapping to WHO Blue Books only missed 21 ICD-O-3.2 morphologies.
