摘要
BackgroundTyphoid infection remains a major cause of global morbidity, with up to 22 million new cases reported each year mostly from endemic resource-limited settings. Diagnosis of individuals with infection remains a challenge, as current diagnostic tests lack the sensitivity required to detect the very low numbers of S. Typhi bacteria (+/-1CFU/mL) found in the peripheral blood at time of presentation. Any new test for detecting typhoid cases therefore requires a high level of sensitivity and needs to be applicable in resource-limited areas.
