•LA-MRSA CC398 in mink are of the same lineages as the dominant lineages in Danish pigs.•It seems that LA-MRSA CC398 spill over from pigs into farmed mink via contaminated feed.•Mink farmers carry the same lineages of LA-MRSA CC398 as farmed mink and pigs.•Usage of antimicrobials in farmed mink, might challenge eradication of LA-MRSA CC398 in mink.
