A new member of the surfactin family produced by Bacillus subtilis with low toxicity on erythrocyte

•Bacillus subtilis TD 7 produced a new member with the shortest hydrophobic chain among the surfactin family.•Its fatty acid part contained both of the iso-C11 and anteiso-C11β-hydroxy fatty acids.•Its peptide sequence was N-Glu-Leu-Leu-Val-Asp-Leu-Leu-C.•Surfactin-C11 exhibited good surface active.•Surfactin-C11 showed low toxicity on erythrocyte.
