Landscape evolution of Punta Arena sand spit (SE Baja California Peninsula, NW Mexico): Implications of ENSO on landscape erosion rates

•OSL ages confirm the sand spit formation during the Little Ice Age.•Bar ages and vegetation density decrease from inner part towards the coast.•Major periods of sedimentation occurred during the phases of ENSO.•The sedimentation rate for the 1950 to 1955 was ~52 m yr–1.•Major sedimentation phases are recorded on physical properties of sediment.
