摘要

•A novel salen derivative was obtained for the detection of Zn2+.•The probe exhibited a remarkable fluorescence enhancement upon addition of Zn2+ in DMF solution.•The probe had good biocompatibility and low cytotoxicity, and could be used to detect Zn2+ in living HeLa cells.
