Real-time personnel re-scheduling after a minor disruption in the retail industry

•New rescheduling heuristic that updates a personnel schedule after a minor disruption.•Heuristic based on the dual information obtained while computing the planned schedule.•It yields multiple (quasi-)optimal solutions in less than a few seconds.•To treat multiple disruptions, it estimates dual values by multivariate adaptive regression splines.
