Pulmonary postmortem computed tomography of bacterial pneumonia and pulmonary edema in patients following non-traumatic in-hospital death.

•In postmortem lung CT, horizontal, symmetrical, and diffuse opacities are observed.•The findings mentioned above increase with time elapsed since death.•Pneumonia is characterized by non-horizontal and centrilobular opacities.•Pulmonary edema is characterized by horizontal, diffuse, interlobular opacities.
